Q&A with Denmark’s Francesco Capocci

News
Meet Francesco Capocci, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound pitcher/infielder from Denmark High School who has signed to play at North Carolina. Capocci is a member of the North Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2023 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.

Q: What in-game rituals or superstitions do you have?

A: I have several: I always sing a song in my head whenever I play, COCONUT REDBULL is a must, I always wear an arm sleeve or a tight-fitting shirt if it's too cold for just an arm sleeve, I rarely have my hat on during the game or during warm-ups, I like eating food throughout the whole game, I do all my handshakes with my teammates before going to the mound and if I don’t, then I will do them in the dugout, I stand in the same place if we are doing good in that inning.

Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?

A: Los Angeles Dodgers.

Q: What is your favorite food to eat?

A: My favorite food is Mexican or Italian.

Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

A: Some people think I am cocky or won’t talk to them because I am “committed” or a “prospect,” but I love talking to everyone and try to be nice to everyone even if they aren’t nice to me.

Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?

A: Senor Armistead -- My favorite subject is either science or spanish.

Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?

A: I love lifting and playing pickleball.

Q: If you could travel anywhere outside the U.S., what would be your dream location and why?

A: Europe. I have always wanted to travel across Europe to visit different countries like Spain or Italy. I love learning about the culture and history of different countries.

Q: Name the person you'd like to meet the most.

A: Kobe Bryant. He stuck out from everyone else and always outworked everyone else. Nothing was given to him. He had to work for it. I relate to that immensely. Plus, he always wanted more and would accept the negative and positive things of being an athlete and good person in life.

Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life?

A: I would say my parents. They have always supported me in everything I do and care about me and love me no matter what. They sacrifice a lot for me to be able to do what I do in baseball, and I will forever be grateful.

Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?

A: I really want to do motivational speaking for athletes. Being an athlete is extremely hard, but the most important thing is understanding that through the struggle of things comes an even better gift at the end. Everything in life is a blessing, negative or positive. You just have to want to keep on working and pushing through and get a little better everyday.
