Meet Luke Dotson, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound pitcher/outfielder from Mount Paran Christian School who has signed with Mississippi State. Dotson is a member of the Metro Atlanta Big 10 cover for the 2023 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.

Q: What in-game rituals or superstitions do you have?

A: Before my first pitch I like to squat down behind the pitcher’s mound, say a quick prayer and focus in on home plate.

Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?

A: I like all professional baseball and follow many players, but the Atlanta Braves are probably my favorite team because I have the chance to go to a lot of games.  I was able to see a World Series game last year and it was amazing.

Q: What is your favorite food to eat?

A: Any kind of buffalo chicken sandwich, and my mom’s homemade mac-and-cheese.

Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

A: I was raised in northern Florida but started playing baseball in Atlanta at 13. I used to commute four hours one way for weekend baseball practice. I moved to Atlanta mid-way through my sophomore year.

Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?

A: I really enjoy all history classes and my favorite high school teacher has been Mr. Fitzpatrick.

Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?

A: I love any water sports including jet skis, wake boarding and tubing.  But I also love snowboarding.

Q: If you could travel anywhere outside the U.S., what would be your dream location and why?

A: I want to go back to Costa Rica, was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. I also want to ski in Switzerland.

Q: Name the person you'd like to meet the most.

A: Until recently I would have said Mike Trout, but I had the chance to meet him this summer. It was great. I’m interested in meeting some of the greats to know more about their training.

Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life?

A: My mom because she has supported me in everything I've done to get to where I am today.

Q: Both of my parents have been influential in my life for different reasons.  My dad was an athlete and a coach and taught me to work hard every day.  My mom has introduced me to travel, snowboarding and we love to try different restaurants.

Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?

A: I’m interested in commercial construction management.  I’ve learned about it from my oldest brother who works for a national company in California and an important baseball dad in my life who works for another great commercial contractor.
