Q&A with Appling County’s Dawson Griffis

Meet Dawson Griffis, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound catcher/outfielder from Appling County High School who is uncommitted. Griffis is a member of the South Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2023 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.

Q: What in-game rituals or superstitions do you have?

A: I make sure all the bats are not crossed and they are straight. If they are crossed, I believe it is bad luck on the batter hitting.

Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?

A: Atlanta Braves.

Q: What is your favorite food to eat?

A: Steak.

Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you.

A: I like to be in the woods. I enjoy riding rangers, hunting, fishing, bogging, and love anything that involves the outdoors.

Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?

A: Mrs. Ammons, math.

Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?

A: Football, fishing and hunting.

Q: If you could travel anywhere outside the U.S., what would be your dream location and why/

A: I would love to go to Africa and explore all the wild animals they have and the culture.

Q: Name the person you'd like to meet the most and why?

A: Dewayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. I love all the movies he is in and love his work ethic. I would love to meet him and talk to him about how he did it and how he pushes himself so hard.

Q: Who has been the influential person is your life and why?

A: My mama. She has taught me everything I know about how to play the game the right way, and she has guided and directed me through all the tough times and been my number one supporter.

Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?

A: My plans are to play college football while pursuing an engineering degree.
