GHSA Class 2A State Championship Series: North Cobb Christian wins state title
STATESBORO -- North Cobb Christian made the most of two hits, scoring three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 victory over Appling County and capture the Georgia High School Association Class 2A state baseball championship series Tuesday evening at Georgia Southern's JI Clements Field.
The Eagles (36-5) took Game 3 after splitting a pair of games Monday evening in the best-of-three series. It marked North Cobb Christian's second straight GHSA Class 2A state baseball championship.
North Cobb Christian scored its runs on a wild pitch and an error. Meanwhile, pitcher Ross Rea shut down Appling County (26-12). He wasn't overpowering, but he hurled a three-hit shutout and relied heavily on his defense in a game that lasted just an hour and 49 minutes.
The Pirates, playing in their first state championship series since they won it all in 2012, finished Game 3 with three errors.
