GHSA Class 4A State Championship Series: Blessed Trinity, Cartersville split
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Blessed Trinty and Cartersville will play the final high baseball game of the season in Georgia Thursday night - a winner-take-all Game 3 in the best-of-three Georgia High School Association Class 4A state championship series at Coolray Field.
Cartersville took the first game 6-3 before Blessed Trinity rallied back in Game 2 to taker a 7-3 victory, forcing a deciding Game 3 Thursday night at 6 p.m.
In Game 1 after Blessed Trinity took an early 1-0 lead, the Purple Hurricanes (32-9) scored four in the fifth inning with the biggest blow coming on Cole Crawford's two-run double.
Cam Cochran's two-run double in the seventh gave Cartersville a 6-3 lead.
Nate Russell earned the victory, allowing just three runs on five hits. Maddox Frazier worked a scoreless seventh to preserve the victory.
But Blessed Trinity (31-9) scored six runs in the top of the third inning in Game 2 to grab a commanding lead and were never seriously threatened in the nightcap to force a deciding Game 3.
