Blessed Trinity players celebrate after defeating Cartersville in Game 3 of the best-of-three Georgia High School Association Class 4A state championship series Thursday night at Coolray Field.
GHSA Class 4A State Championship Series: Blessed Trinity tops Cartersville for state title in extra innings
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Carson Zagryn's hard liner into left field scored Quinn Davis in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 6-all tie as Blessed Trinity scored a dramatic 7-6 walk-off victory in Game 3 of the best-of-three Georgia High School Association Class 4A state baseball championship series at Coolray Field Thursday night.
Zagryn's heroics came after Kade Kisz's two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning highlighted a three-run Blessed Trinity inning to tie the game and force extra innings.
The state title is the first for Blessed Trinity (32-9) since the Titans went back-to-back in 2014-15 while playing in Class 3A.
Meanwhile, it was another back-breaking defeat in the state championship series for Cartersville who finished as the state runner-up for the second straight season. This one, however, may have been more difficult to swallow.
Cartersville (32-9) took the first game of the series before Blessed Trinity rallied to win Game 2 to force Thursday night's winner-take-all Game 3.
The Purple Hurricanes took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth and appeared in control even though Blessed Trinity's Terrance Bowen cut the lead in half in the bottom the fifth by belting a two-run homer.
Cartersville added what seemed to be an insurance run in the top of the sixth on Brayden Logan's RBI single to make it 5-2.
Blessed Trinity stayed close by adding another run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-3 before Cartesville went ahead 6-3 in the top of the seventh, scoring on one of Titan errors in the game.
