
Meet Reid Gainous, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound pitcher/third-baseman from Thomas County Central High School. Gainous is a member of the South Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2026 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.
Q: What in-game rituals do you have?
A: I have a specific pair of socks I wear when I pitch.
Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?
A: Atlanta Braves.
Q: What is your favorite food to eat?
A: Chorizo tacos.
Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?
A: I am a meticulous organizer.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?
A: My favorite teacher is Mrs. Bethany Hayes. She was my 11th-grade forensics teacher. My favorite subject is history.
Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?
A: Hunting and fishing.
Q: What jersey number do you wear and what reason did you choose that number?
A: Jersey No. 10. I chose the No. 10 because I grew up watching Chipper Jones. It just kind of stuck with me as I got older.
Q: What do you like the most about playing baseball?
A: Everything. I love everything about the game. The thrill of competing with my friends is a powerful motivator and being able to celebrate their success celebrates mutual support and encouragement.
Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
A: My dad, he has taught me everything I know on and off the field.
Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?
A: I want to be a baseball coach.
