Meet Matthew Kerrigan, a 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder/pitcher from Lowndes High School. Kerrigan is a member of the South Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2026 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.
Q: What in-game rituals do you have?
A: I pray before every game. I always try to have the same pre-game throwing partner.
Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?
A: The Los Angeles Dodgers and whomever drafts me.
Q: What is your favorite food to eat?
A: Steak and Mosato teriyaki chicken bowls.
Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?
A: I do almost everything right-handed outside of baseball where I play L/L. I write, play golf and play pickle-ball right-handed.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?
A: Bobbie Wilson (pre-Calculus teacher) and math.
Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?
A: I love to bird hunt and play golf.
Q: What jersey number do you wear and what reason did you choose that number?
A: I like to wear the No. 7 (perfect number). As an underclassman, I couldn't get the No. 7 so I embraced the No. 3. The player makes the number not the other way around.
Q: What do you like the most about playing baseball?
A: I love to compete and always try to be the best player that I can be.
Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
A: I rely heavily on my faith in Jesus Christ, my mom and dad after that.
Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?
A: While I want to be a professional baseball player first, I would like to major in agri-business and have my own bird hunting plantation one day.
