Meet Ethan England, a 6-foot-1, 155-pound shortstop from Cherokee Bluff High School. England is a member of the North Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2026 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.
Q: What in-game rituals do you have?
A: Before every game, I follow the same warm-up routine—stretching in the same order, taking a set number of practice swings and making sure my glove is in perfect shape. I also always draw a cross with my bat before my first pitch. It’s not that I think it magically changes the outcome, but it helps me lock in mentally and feel ready to compete.
Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?
A: My favorite professional sports team is the Atlanta Braves. Growing up in Georgia, my family and I went to a lot of their games and some of my best memories are watching them play. Seeing the energy at Truist Park and how the Braves compete has always inspired me to work hard and play with the same passion.
Q: What is your favorite food to eat?
A: My favorite food is steak—especially Wagyu. I love how tender and tasty it is. It’s definitely my go-to meal when I want something special, whether it’s after a big game or a celebration with my family.
Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?
A: Most people see me as super competitive, but I’m actually pretty quiet and laid-back off the field.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?
A: My favorite teacher is Mr. Cantrell. I do online courses, and I’ve had him a couple of times. He’s a cool dude and makes History fun and interesting, which isn’t something you can say about every teacher. He keeps things engaging, and I always end up learning more than I expected
Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?
A: Outside of baseball, my favorite hobby is hunting and fishing. We live on the lake and own some property, so I get to spend a lot of time outdoors. It’s a great way for me to relax, recharge and enjoy time with family and friends.
Q: What jersey number do you wear and what reason did you choose that number?
A: I wear jersey number 15. I didn’t choose it for any particular reason but over time, it’s become part of my baseball identity. Now, it just feels right to have 15 on my back when I’m out on the field.
Q: What do you like the most about playing baseball?
A: What I like most about playing baseball is the adrenaline rush. Whether it’s stepping into the batter’s box with the game on the line or making a big play in the field, that surge of energy and excitement is like nothing else.
Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
A: The most influential person in my life is my dad. He played ball for the Brewers back in the day, and he started working with me when I was about four years old. Ever since, he’s never stopped teaching me—both about the game and about life. The lessons he’s shared on and off the field have shaped who I am as a player and as a person.
Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?
A: After baseball, I’d like to get into construction. My goal is to learn the craft of building houses from the ground up and eventually become a custom-home builder. I think it would be rewarding to create something lasting that people can enjoy for generations.
