News

Meet Braegan Cravey, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound pitcher/first-baseman/third-baseman from Bleckley County High School. Cravey is a member of the South Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2025 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.

Q: What in-game rituals or superstitions do you have?

A: Before gametime, I pray, then I pray again before every inning. As far as superstitions are concerned, I have specific underwear for certain games. My Oscar Meyer boxer briefs are the go-to for shove day.

Q: Are you a morning person or a night owl?

A: I probably am more of a night owl, but it depends on the day..

Q: What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?

A: Outside of playing baseball, I enjoy hanging around friends, being with my family, going to church, riding around the farm and hunting.

Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

A: I have been dubbed a BHP, which means I’m a both-handed pitcher. I’ve been throwing and hitting from both sides my whole life.

Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?

A: My mom has always been my favorite teacher. She is the best math teacher, and I’ve always been more of a math guy. Recently, I’ve been exposed to medical things, so I have to say for high school, my favorite subject is Anatomy. My teacher Mr. Mike Brannon teaches it well and it is the most useful information, so he is a favorite.

Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?

A: I enjoy playing pickleball, and I love to read.

Q: What jersey number do you wear and what reason did you choose that number?

A: Since I stepped on a field at the age of five, I have always been 23. The reason made sense to me at that age when I told my dad I wanted 2 for B and 3 for C, my initials, since they are the 2nd and 3rd letters of the alphabet. And it stuck, so I always pick 23.

Q: What do you like the most about playing baseball?

A: It’s hard to say what I like the most because there are so many things. I like the ups and downs. If you don’t have the downs, you can’t appreciate the ups. I love the grind. I love pitching. I like being on a team with guys who become like brothers. Maybe what I like most is that it is something my dad started with me and taught me to do and is something that for all these years, we still do together in some capacity.

Q: Do you have any pets? If so talk about them.

A: We have the coolest Mini Schnauzer. His name is Ozzie and he is four years old. He is named after Ozzie Albies. He pretends to be vicious, but he’s really sweet and playful. He loves to howl and talk to us.

Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?

A: If baseball isn’t my career, I would like to be an orthopedic surgeon. I love how the body works and I love fixing things, and that is something I would enjoy learning about and doing.
