Meet Sam Summerlin, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound catcher from Westwood School. Summerlin is a member of the GIAA Big 10 cover for the 2025 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.
Q: What in-game rituals do you have?
A: I like to start with wrist tape. If I have success, I will keep the tape. If I am struggling, it is time to get rid of all the “drip”.
Q: Are you a morning person or a night owl?
A: Definitely a night owl.
Q: What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?
A: I like to spend it with family and friends. Whether it is playing ball or just hanging out, I enjoy it all.
Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?
A: I scored over 1,000 points in three years of varsity basketball at Westwood.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?
A: I am blessed to have a lot of great teachers, but my favorite subject is Physics.
Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?
A: A lot of my buddies play golf. I had never really played until recently, so I am trying to get the hang of it. I am enjoying that.
Q: What jersey number do you wear and what reason did you choose that number?
A: 77 - The number was randomly assigned to me in my early years of travel ball. I have stuck with it ever since. Now it's my number.
Q: What do you like the most about playing baseball?
A: I will say the excitement and rush of the big moments and important situations and experiencing success with my teammates.
Q: Do you have any pets? If so, talk about them.
A: I have two miniature schnauzers (Hank and Bear) that are so special to us, but they can be a handful.
Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?
A: I hope it’s after a long and successful baseball career, but I think I would like to be a lawyer.
