Georgia Dugout Preview

Q&A with Jefferson’s Eston Simpson

News

Meet Eston Simpson, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound pitcher from Jefferson High School. Simpson is a member of the North Georgia Big 10 cover for the 2025 Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Here are 10 questions with him.

Q: What in-game rituals or superstitions do you have?

A: Before high school games, I get a burrito before every home outing. To warm up on the mound, I always have my catcher stand up for the first two throws and then he can squat after that.

Q: Are you a morning person or a night owl?

A: I’m a night owl for sure because it’s hard to turn off my brain. I struggle waking up in the mornings. I’m the person with multiple alarms and I still lay there not wanting to get up.

Q: What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?

A: Because I have such a busy schedule, I like to either chill out at home which includes me laying around watching movies, playing video games, watching pitching videos, or sleeping, or I’ll hang out with my friends and we like to go swimming at the lake, fish, ride jet skis and camp.

Q: Name one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

A: Everyone says baseball players, especially pitchers, are very good at golf. I’m terrible at it. I even lose at Top Golf!

Q: Who is your favorite teacher and what is your favorite high school subject?

A: I can’t really name one single favorite teacher because I’ve had so many that are my favorites for

different reasons, but my favorite subject in school is Math, followed by Language Arts. They are easy for me because they are repetitive.

Q: Outside of baseball, what is your next hobby?

A: Pickleball for sure. It fits my competitive nature, it’s intense, and you’re constantly moving. I really like playing it with my friends or my girlfriend.

Q: What jersey number do you wear and what reason did you choose that number?

A: I wear #7 because it’s lucky. Everyone knows that. I’ve worn #7 almost my entire life. Always bet on 7.

Q: What do you like the most about playing baseball?

A: I love being a pitcher because it puts me in control of most of the game. A big part of the game goes with the way I perform on that mound. I love learning different pitches and how different things you do factor into how you pitch like your release point, velo and spin rates. It’s just all interesting to me.

Q: Do you have any pets? If so, talk about them.

A: We have a chocolate lab named Ruger. He is like a fat teddy bear. He just eats, sleeps, and fetches a ball like two times before he eats and sleeps again.

Q: After baseball, what career are you planning to pursue?

A: I hope baseball is my career but after that, one day I would like to have my own baseball facility for players to train out of. Having a good facility to train at has been a big part of my development so, I think that’s important.
